SPECIFIC OPERATIONS ARE EASILY PERFORMED IN PARKHAYATTA
Chief Physician Süleyman Şahin gave information about laparoscopic (closed) choledochotomy, choledochal stone removal and t-tube drainage surgery performed in Afyon PARKHAYAT Hospital General Surgery Clinic.
Gallbladder stones can pass from the gallbladder to the main bile duct, also known as the choledochal duct. In addition, in patients with gallbladder surgery, residual or new stones may develop in the choledochal duct. These stones passing into the choledochal duct or newly formed stones cause obstruction in the region called ampulla and life-threatening. Choledochal stones cause clinical pictures such as biliary colic, cholangitis, obstructive jaundice and pancreatitis in our patients. The primary treatment option in such patients is Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, known as ERCP for short. In PARKHAYAT Hospital General Surgery Clinic, ERCP procedure has been routinely performed by experienced anaesthesia and general surgery team for years. However, ERCP cannot be performed in patients who have previously undergone abdominal surgery, especially stomach surgery. Such patients are exposed to open surgery, which is much more severe.
Prof. Dr Yüksel Arıkan gave information about the subject; Our patient Halil Şekerci is 75 years old. 30 years ago, due to stomach ulcer, most of the stomach called subtotal gastrectomy was removed. Our patient presented to us with obstructive jaundice and cholangitis. After a detailed examination and treatment, it was revealed that the disease was caused by a stone located in the last part of the bile ducts, which did not allow the flow of bile. Our patient also had respiratory and cardiac problems. ERCP procedure could not be performed due to gastric surgery. In order to ensure the fastest recovery after surgery, OP. DR. SULEYMAN ŞAHİN, PROF. DR. YÜKSEL ARIKAN and DOÇ.DR. MUSTAFA ÖZSOY, it was decided to perform laparoscopic choledochal exploration. Our patient was discharged with healing on the 4th postoperative day. Thus, our patient got rid of open abdominal surgery and quickly regained his normal life. In PARKHAYAT Hospital General Surgery Clinic, laparoscopic biliary tract surgery is routinely performed thanks to the high-level surgical equipment available only in a few centres in our country.
