The word surgery originates from the Latin term 'chirurgiae' and means 'manual labour'. General surgery is a technical discipline that includes topics such as wound healing, metabolic and endocrine response to injury, as well as treatments based on the principle of repairing diseases that cannot be treated with medication or other medical methods by surgery or by cutting and removing the diseased organ, and has influenced many surgical and basic medicine branches in terms of their development.
