A 91-year-old male patient (E.N), who applied to the hospital with complaints of high fever and cough, was treated in intensive care for 16 days after testing positive for Covid-19. After his treatment, the old man managed to defeat the virus and was discharged from the hospital with healing. Prof. Dr. Ömer Coşkun, Chest Diseases Specialist Dr. Meltem Gürsoy, Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. İlker Polat, Anesthesia and Radiology specialists, the patient was sent home with applause by physicians and healthcare professionals during his discharge.

THE ELDERLY ALSO DEFEAT THE DISEASE

Although the new type of Covid-19 pandemic, which has affected the world, affects the elderly more, the fact that there are those who recover at advanced ages gives hope. Patients over the age of 70, who constitute the highest risk group in the pandemic, can now fully recover after Covid-19 treatment.

Mustafa Enis Arabacı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PARKHAYAT Hospital, said: "Being able to send our 91-year-old patient home safely after a long treatment process made us very happy and opened a door for us to look to the future with more hope. I would like to thank all our team, physicians, nurses and employees who contributed. Since the day the first case was seen, a total of 51 people (whose lung tomography and clinic are compatible with the disease) have been hospitalized and treated in the fully isolated pandemic service with a possible diagnosis of Covid-19 in Afyon Hospital. Of these suspects, 18 people tested positive for Covid-19. Of our 38 patients who were treated and discharged with healing, 11 of them were patients over the age of 70."

Arabacı continued his words as follows: "We are very pleased that the bad scenarios we feared at first did not come true, with the number of patients in Afyon province, which cannot be called small in total. I would like to thank all those who contributed in the presence of our governor.

In this process, the strength of our country's health organization has attracted worldwide attention. The value we attach to human life, whether old or young, which comes from our faith and culture, has been recognized. The modern health infrastructure of both public and private sector hospitals, the success, creativity and dedication of our physicians and healthcare professionals in diagnosis and treatment, the seriousness of the filiation organization, and our Minister of Health and the Scientific Committee, who have managed all these with skill, are the key elements of the success achieved so far.  Nevertheless, this battle continues.  We must always keep in mind that we need to maintain our vigilance and precautions.

As PARKHAYAT Healthcare Group, we established fully isolated pandemic wards and formed scientific committees in our 3 hospitals in Afyon, Kütahya and Akşehir at the beginning of March. I would like to state that we are proud to serve our nation with the awareness that it is our primary duty to take responsibility in this difficult process that the world and our country are going through.

Believing that humanity will overcome this calamity in a short time, I wish success and ease to all physicians, nurses, healthcare workers, auxiliary personnel and scientists all over the world who care for their patients by taking risks, showing high sacrifices and looking for a cure for the disease."
