WINTER SUPPORT TO YOUR SKIN AT PARKHAYAT HOSPITAL
Working in the Department of Dermatology at PARKHAYAT Hospital, Uzm. Dr. Belma Arabacı Arslan talked about the importance of the environment and the effects of the seasons on the skin.
Dr. Lion; The environment and seasons have a significant effect on the skin. In winter, the moisture balance of the skin is disturbed by the influence of environmental factors such as cold weather outside, heating, stove, air conditioning inside, and the preference of hot water in the bathroom. This can lead to itching on dry skin. It causes dry skin, widespread itching and fine dandruff, especially on the arms and legs. If this condition is not treated, it can cause severe eczema, he said.
Arslan said that taking a bath with hot water and using harsh soaps in winter are the main causes of dry skin. This is especially common in elderly people, where the repair rate of the skin's water barrier is reduced and the sebaceous glands are less active.
With some precautions to be taken, it is possible to prevent the negative effects of the winter season on the skin. Bathing with hot water should be avoided during the most important winter months in skin care. Warm water and soap with a PH suitable for the skin (PH 5.5) should be used in the bath, and the duration of the bath should not exceed 10 minutes.
Moisturizing creams and lotions should be used after the bath, before the skin is completely dried, while it is slightly damp. Our hands, which are constantly exposed to external factors and that we have to wash many times during the day, should also be taken care of, and moisturizer should be applied after each wash. Another issue that we often see in the winter months is chapped lips. To prevent this, lip care should not be neglected, and lips should be moistened frequently during the day with lip sticks with vitamins.
As a result, patients with dry skin and associated itching should see a dermatologist if their complaints do not improve despite using moisturizers.
Because dry skin treatment varies according to the duration, severity of the complaints and the presence of eczema. In addition, many moisturizing products on the market may not be suitable for your skin type. Dr.Arslan should be consulted with a dermatologist for proper product use and treatment.
