SKIN CANCER
Skin cancer is a type of cancer that develops when malignant (cancerous) cells in the skin grow abnormally and uncontrollably. It is one of the most common types of cancer in the body. Exposure to sunlight and genetic changes in the skin are among the most common causes of skin cancer.
Skin cancer is often more common in individuals with fair skin and in areas of the body that are frequently exposed to the sun, such as the face, neck, and hands. The most common types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. There is also a rarer type called melanoma.
Early detection increases the chances of successfully treating skin cancer. Any new skin lesions, scars, or changes in moles should be taken seriously, and medical attention should be sought. Skin cancer is often treated with surgical intervention. In more advanced stages, treatments such as radiation therapy or chemotherapy may be used. Additionally, sun protection and regular skin checks are important in preventing skin cancer.
